- The Southern Cross Adaptive Maritime Program (SCAMP)hasĀ four focus activities:
- sailing opportunities to a targeted population;
- therapeutic and recreational sailing;
- competitive amateur sailing;
- maritime associated educational skills (practical application of mathematics, marine biology, climatology, and oceanography).
- These activities are conducted by U.S. Sailing certified instructors, professionally certified craftsmen in the boat building/maintenance trades and degreed individuals from academia.
- SCAMP activities are conducted year-round: on-water seamanship/sailing instruction (weather permitting), classrooms and boat building/maintenance facilities for hands-on training. Primary operating area is the Hampton Roads region.
- The Southern Cross Adaptive Maritime Program (SCAMP) offers its programs to individuals with a wide-range of disabilities and disadvantaged youth. Thus providing a healthy educational environment where participants from all levels of ability and economic backgrounds interact and strive toward common goals.
- Eighty percent of the total time is allocated to our primary focus activities, with the remainder toward administrative activities.
- The Southern Cross Adaptive Maritime Program (SCAMP) is funded through gifts, grants or contributions from individuals, trusts, or endowments.
